Northern Territory Mango Industry Association ( NTMIA )
The mango growers of the NT evolved as a group with the creation of the NTHA in 1980. By the 1990’s mango growers were the largest group within the NTHA and provided much of the direction for the recent development of the horticulture industry in the NT. The NTMIA became incorporated as a body in 2001 in the industry organizations restructure which saw the NTHA take on the formal role of umbrella body for all the horticulture industries of the NT and service provider for the affiliated commodity groups. The structure of the NTMIA guarantees full cross representation on the NTMIA board with board members representing small, medium and large-scale growers. The Northern Territory Mango Industry Association (NTMIA) provides a vital focus for the NT mango growers, packers and allied industry. As the incorporated body for the industry, it is well placed to initiate the actions needed to find solutions to many different issues facing the mango industry. The Association seeks to coordinate services to its members that assist them to perform successfully in a highly competitive and quality focused market place.
For 2006 - 2009 the major areas of focus will be : Best Practice for Sustainable Land Use Program Supporting and promoting participation in a Crop Forecasting System to improve harvest logistics and marketing. Representing the NT mango industry in critical government and non-government forums. Benchmarking industry skills, knowledge and practices Harvest labour and harvest season strategy Efficient industry organizational structure and operation Effective industry communications Code of Practice for Employment Technology Transfer program Research and development needs of the mango industry Maintaining current Industry services
NTMIA will continue to guide the NT Mango Industry to create economically advantageous partnerships and understandings across the supply chain and to realize its potential in the global mango market.
