Safety starts here: NTHA steps up this National Safe Work Month

Safety is everyone’s business, and this October, the National Timber & Hardware Association (NTHA) is putting practical safety training front and centre for the industry.

National Safe Work Month is a timely reminder that workplace safety cannot be left to chance. For timber and hardware businesses, where workers regularly handle heavy products, load and unload goods and manage deliveries, understanding safety responsibilities can make a real difference.

This year’s theme, ‘Safe work is for life’, highlights that safety is about more than preventing injuries today – it is about protecting workers’ health, safety and wellbeing now and into the future.

This October, NTHA is supporting members with two non-accredited, practical online workshops delivered through its Registered Training Organisation (RTO 5343), Fitec Pty Ltd T/AS NTHA Training.

Know your responsibilities: Chain of Responsibility

NTHA’s Chain of Responsibility: Share the Load Workshop will be held online via Teams on Wednesday, 14 October, from 9.30am to 11.30am AEST.

If your business consigns, packs, loads or receives goods, it is crucial that you and your employees understand Chain of Responsibility.

The workshop is designed to give relevant staff a clearer understanding of their responsibilities and the action required when a potential compliance issue arises.

Businesses can potentially be legally liable for breaches of the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), even when they have no direct role in driving or operating a heavy vehicle.

The two-hour workshop will cover:

  • Who is part of the Chain of Responsibility
  • What ‘reasonably practicable’ means
  • Shared responsibility
  • What to do when a CoR issue is identified
  • Managing safety risks within an overall safety management system

Practical safety support

National Safe Work Month is a good opportunity to make workplace safety a priority and ensure your team understands its responsibilities.

For NTHA members, these workshops provide practical training to help build knowledge and awareness around important workplace safety responsibilities.

Non-Accredited Workshop and Statement of Attendance certificates will be provided to attending participants.

NTHA Member Training Vouchers can be used for the booking, and to book contact the Training Team at info@ntha.edu.au
